{"id":102,"date":"2010-02-22T18:23:19","date_gmt":"2010-02-23T02:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottcochrane.com\/?p=102"},"modified":"2012-07-19T15:40:34","modified_gmt":"2012-07-19T22:40:34","slug":"oh-canada-what-a-responsibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottcochrane.com\/index.php\/2010\/02\/22\/oh-canada-what-a-responsibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Oh Canada, What a Responsibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I prepare for the last leg of my journey, which has seen me connecting with  international church leaders in Frankfurt, Germany and here in Atlanta, GA, I make my way home with two powerful symbols dominating my thinking.<\/p>\n<p>The first, and by far most important, is the cross. At every turn I was confronted with compelling reminders that we live in a world in desperate need of the gospel. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scottcochrane.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/leaf.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\"> From the passion of Christian brothers like <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Oscar_Zamora\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar Zamora from Peru<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.willowcreeksa.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gerry Couchman of South Africa<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.willowcreek.de\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karlheinz Zimmer of Germany<\/a>, I was reminded over and over that in every corner of the world the message of Christ\u2019s love is needed now more than ever. <\/p>\n<p>But another symbol has taken on a new importance for me too. That is the Maple Leaf.<\/p>\n<p>The warmth and respect with which Canada\u2019s reputation is received worldwide is striking. As an American friend involved in international ministry said, \u201cHow I envy the way Canadians are received in every part of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But then he added seriously and, I believe prophetically, \u201cYou have a great responsibility to steward well your nation\u2019s international reputation. You must use that reputation to advance the gospel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We may be citizens of Heaven, but temporarily God has given us a Canadian passport. As I hold this passport in my hand, about to board my flight home to Canada, I find myself asking \u201cHow is it that God would have me steward the symbol of the Maple Leaf in order to advance the powerful symbol of the cross?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Has God ever stirred within you a sense of responsibility to leverage your Canadian citizenship to advance the gospel beyond Canada\u2019s borders?
