It requires the effort and discipline to be yourself.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, being <em>inauthentic<\/em> when you communicate is actually quite easy. It simply requires these 5 easy steps.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0 Make sure there\u2019s no connection between your real-life and your <strong>communicating<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\nIf there is a disconnect between your personal life and your communication\u00a0you can be sure you\u2019ll be perceived as inauthentic. For example, talking\u00a0about good stewardship when you\u2019re wracked with debt is a good starting point.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Communicate\u00a0<\/strong><strong><\/strong>completely differently than the way you talk<\/strong><br \/>\nI knew one pastor who talked very normally in every day conversation, but the minute he stood behind the pulpit suddenly he pronounced the word \u201cscriptures\u201d using five syllables.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Creating a wide chasm between how you communicate in the church lobby and how you communicate in the pulpit guarantees inauthenticity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0 Never disclose any areas of struggle in your life<\/strong><br \/>\nA sure way to be seen as inauthentic is to communicate\u00a0as if you have all the answers and have everything in life nicely sorted out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Since your congregation is dealing with real-life issues every day you\u2019ll be sure to be seen as weirdly different from everyone else.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0 Include content designed to make you look smart<\/strong><br \/>\nThese are the cool nuggets of trivia you uncovered in your research that really don\u2019t add a lot of value to the talk, but which might make you sound clever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Inauthentic communicators\u00a0cram their talks with this stuff.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>5.\u00a0\u00a0 Lace your talks with important-sounding names and places<\/strong><br \/>\nInstead of saying, \u201cI was talking with someone\u201d you say, \u201cI was talking with someone while on a flight from Rome to Bangkok.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Instead of saying, \u201cI was at an event recently\u2026\u201d you say, \u201cI was the guest of honour at an event recently\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This kind of communicating\u00a0doesn\u2019t have a lot of power, but it can make the preacher look good.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand if your goal is changed lives through the power of God\u2019s Word, ignore these five steps.<\/p>\n<p>And just be real.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you make sure you are as authentic as possible when you <strong>communicate<\/strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Authenticity is one of the most important lenses through which your congregation filters what happens when you communicate.
