He calls it \u201cBlue Monday\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re keeping track, in 2013 that\u2019s January 21<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Now the point here isn\u2019t whether or not the single most depressing day of the year will actually be January 21<sup>st<\/sup>, January 22<sup>nd<\/sup>, or July 10<sup>th <\/sup>for that matter. You\u2019ll more than make up for it by the rise in team morale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Engage in blue sky thinking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When shoulders are sagging the sheer drudgery of normal activities can feel especially draining.<\/p>\n<p>Lift the team\u2019s focus to a higher level.<\/p>\n<p>You might try bringing them together every day all week for lunch, (and order in the food). Over lunch give them a chance to dream up the most creative out of the box ideas possible.<\/p>\n<p>Activating their creativity is a great way to infuse energy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Rally your team around a cause<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes you just need to shift their focus onto some way to make an immediate, profound difference.<\/p>\n<p>My previous team had adopted a local crisis pregnancy centre as a place we would volunteer and offer support.<\/p>\n<p>Anytime we rallied to help the pregnancy centre with a project one consistent side-benefit was that the spirits on our own team would soar.<\/p>\n<p>January 21<sup>st<\/sup> might indeed be the most depressing day of the year for your team. But if you lead them well, then who knows?
