{"id":3560,"date":"2013-12-16T20:06:22","date_gmt":"2013-12-17T02:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottcochrane.com\/?p=3560"},"modified":"2013-12-16T20:06:22","modified_gmt":"2013-12-17T02:06:22","slug":"a-bible-through-the-year-plan-that-might-work-for-you-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottcochrane.com\/index.php\/2013\/12\/16\/a-bible-through-the-year-plan-that-might-work-for-you-2\/","title":{"rendered":"A \u201cBible Through the Year\u201d Plan That Might Work for You"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><em style=\"font-size: 13px; font-weight: normal;\">Originally<\/em><em style=\"font-size: 13px; font-weight: normal;\">\u00a0posted January 6, 2012<\/em><\/h1>\n<div>\n<p><em><\/em><strong>If 2014 is the year you commit to reading the bible through cover to cover, you probably know there are dozens of plans from which to choose.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a name=\"graphic\"><\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Several years ago, after laboring through bible plans that seemed ponderous, I put together my own that has breathed new life into my personal daily bible reading for more than a decade.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottcochrane.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Daily_Bible_Plan1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"btn-image--openpopup figure aligncenter\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Daily Bible Plan\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scottcochrane.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/bible1-300x207.png\" alt=\"Daily Bible Plan\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" \/><\/a>Here are the principles on which I built my plan:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Jesus\u2019 story needs to be read\u2026often.<\/strong><br \/>\nEarly on I realized that I want to revisit the life and ministry of Christ throughout the year. My plan places the four gospels in each season of the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Naming the elephant in the room \u2013 Some parts of the bible are boring.<\/strong><br \/>\nPlowing through some sections of the Law or the minutia of genealogies can suck the life out of bible reading. I intersperse these sections with regular \u201cbursts\u201d of Psalms and Proverbs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>The Prophets come to life when they\u2019re matched with their history.<\/strong><br \/>\nI like to provide context for the major and minor prophets by positioning these readings as near to their corresponding history book as possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Grouping the Epistles creates context and texture.<\/strong><br \/>\nI love working through the Pauline epistles, taking a \u201cgospel break\u201d then tackling the other letters a bit later in the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Wrapping up the year with John<\/strong><br \/>\nI\u2019ve always had a special appreciation for \u201cthe disciple Jesus loved\u201d. I end the year with John\u2019s gospel, followed by his epistles, then the Revelation.<\/p>\n<p>John Ortberg has rightly observed that while getting through the bible is good, getting all of the bible through you is what really matters. That\u2019s very true. Reading the bible all the way through is not in and of itself spiritually significant.
