The 2014 Global Leadership Summit in the United States and several Canadian cities is just days away. As I find my own anticipation rising for this year’s event, I went back to some “a-ha” moments I captured September 12, 2012.<\/em><\/p>\n

As you get ready for this year’s Summit consider how you might see your own Summit chair become a seat of transformation…<\/em><\/p>\n

You\u2019ve heard the comments before at the Leadership Summit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With great flourish a renowned leader points to a chair in the auditorium as he passionately thunders, \u201cThat\u2019s the chair where everything changed. I remember sitting in that very chair many years ago at a conference when my life was forever changed\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

When a Summit speaker makes such a statement, guests typically have one of two reactions. For some they think to themselves, \u201cI can relate. I had a similar experience at a Summit.\u201d<\/p>\n

But for others the response is, \u201cHuh? I\u2019ve never come\u00a0close\u00a0to that kind of moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why the difference?<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve learned that if you want to experience the Global Leadership Summit in such a way that is more likely to lead to a transformational moment it all comes down to what you take with you into the event.<\/p>\n

Specifically, I believe there are at least\u00a03 vital tools every leader must bring with them to the Summit<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0 An expectation of transformation<\/strong>
\nIf you arrive in a posture of expectancy that your world could be rocked, you stand a much greater chance of experiencing one of those \u201ca-ha\u201d moments.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0 A willingness to wrestle in \u201creal time\u201d<\/strong>
\nIn each talk, be constantly asking, \u201cDo I agree with this? What is my immediate take away? What will I have to change in my own leadership?\u201d<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0 A team-learning approach<\/strong>
\nLeaders who attend the Summit as part of a team always have a richer experience. They huddle up at breaks, over meals, anywhere they can to work through learnings. If you haven’t done so already, make sure your entire team is on board for this year’s Summit.<\/p>\n

There can be many reasons for registering your team for an event like the Global Leadership Summit. Perhaps it\u2019s a team-building exercise, or maybe it\u2019s just for a well-deserved break from the grind of ministry!<\/p>\n

But if your expectation is to actually experience growth, change and development, come prepared with these three tools.<\/p>\n

Perhaps one day you\u2019ll point to a seat in the auditorium and say, \u201cThat\u2019s the chair where everything changed.\u201d<\/p>\n
