{"id":624,"date":"2010-11-26T04:00:39","date_gmt":"2010-11-26T04:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottcochrane.com\/?p=624"},"modified":"2010-11-26T23:02:24","modified_gmt":"2010-11-26T23:02:24","slug":"has-god-called-your-team-to-not-take-that-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottcochrane.com\/index.php\/2010\/11\/26\/has-god-called-your-team-to-not-take-that-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Has God Called Your Team to NOT Take that Hill?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Holman Israelites Carried Captive\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/7\/77\/Holman_Israelites_Carried_Captive.jpg\/800px-Holman_Israelites_Carried_Captive.jpg\" alt=\"Israelites Carried Captive\" width=\"488\" height=\"297\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So much of leadership is inspiring and vision-casting our teams to \u2018take that hill for Christ\u2019; to enable those we lead to see beyond their fears and insecurities, and to instill within them a belief that we can accomplish more than we thought possible.<\/p>\n<p>And sometimes God is quietly telling us to stay right where we are\u2026 to NOT take that hill\u2026 to allow God to fulfill His purposes precisely through our <em>inaction.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel both warned the people of Judah NOT to resist the conquering Babylonians. While other false prophets were whipping the people up to go to war with the Babylonians, God\u2019s true prophets were saying, \u201cNo. Wait. Don\u2019t resist. Don\u2019t fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why did God deliver this warning? Why did He have to tell His people <em>not <\/em>to fight?<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong><strong>The urge to take action is not always God\u2019s plan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not to say that as Christians our leadership should be passive. Far from it. What Bill Hybels calls the \u201cbias towards action\u201d is a critical piece in the leaders arsenal. But so is discernment. So is discretion. So is a listening ear toward heaven to understand God\u2019s greater purpose.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong><strong>God\u2019s timing is not always in alignment with our timing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>God had a time-table for the deliverance of His people. It was to be a 70 year ordeal, during which time God would be teaching His people some important lessons. And sometimes God still uses timing we don\u2019t understand to fulfill His purposes.<\/p>\n<p>So, as leaders what do we do with this? We live in the tension between our \u2018bias toward action\u2019 and having the patience to wait on heaven.<\/p>\n<p>For leaders, leading through this tension is one of the most challenging, and most important, skills we will ever develop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you know when to \u2018fight\u2019, and when to wait?<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So much of leadership is inspiring and vision-casting our teams to \u2018take that hill for Christ\u2019; to enable those we lead to see beyond their fears and insecurities, and to instill within them a belief that we can accomplish more than we thought possible.
