Always.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t put on our leadership hats only when casting vision or strategic planning. The reality is, leadership is not a role we can slip in and out of. Being a leader flows out of who we are; we carry it 24\/7.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, as the saying goes, \u201c<strong>don\u2019t be that guy\u201d,<\/strong> or that woman.<\/p>\n<p>You know what I\u2019m talking about.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be \u201cthat guy\u201d who:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-772\" title=\"that_guy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scottcochrane.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/that_guy-300x269.jpg\" alt=\"that guy\" width=\"180\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottcochrane.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/that_guy-300x269.jpg 300w, https:\/\/scottcochrane.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/that_guy.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nudges your car forward because you don\u2019t want the car merging onto the highway to get in front of you.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Hogs all the overhead storage space on the plane, just because you boarded first.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Snaps at clerks behind the counter working a bit slower than you\u2019d like.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Thinks the \u201c12 Items Or Less\u201d sign at the express check-out line really doesn\u2019t apply to you because you\u2019re in a hurry).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Treats your hotel room like a teenager treats his bedroom. (The hotel staff are housekeepers, not your mother).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is fresh in my mind, because yesterday I almost became \u201cthat guy\u201d. Standing in line to pick up my rental car at the airport I found myself growing irritated because, despite my preferred-customer status with the rental company, I wasn\u2019t able to pick up my car as quickly as usual. I could have become the one who demands to see the manager, flails his arms around in exaggerated contempt, says things like, \u201cI\u2019ve been a preferred customer with this company for 84 years\u201d etc. Yes, I could have become \u201cthat guy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, I remembered that even standing in this line-up (<em>especially<\/em> standing in this line-up), I\u2019m still a leader who carries the name of Christ with me where ever I go.<\/p>\n<p>And so are you. So let\u2019s commit to always remembering that we lead where ever we are.<\/p>\n<p>And therefore we\u2019ll never be \u201cthat guy\u201d, or that woman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What would you add to my \u201cthat guy\u201d list?<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are a leader, you are ALWAYS leading.
