But if you use any of these phrases, those credibility chips are falling out of your pocket every time.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>And when you\u2019re low on credibility, you\u2019re low on the ability to lead effectively.<\/p>\n<p>Do you ever find yourself using one of these phrases?<\/p>\n<h2>1. \u201cI\u2019ve been meaning to\u2026\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Your leadership credibility is built on what you\u2019ve done, not on what you said you would do. And besides, people can usually tell when \u201cI\u2019ve been meaning to\u2026\u201d really just means, \u201cI forgot to\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>2. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, but\u2026\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry for missing the meeting, but I\u2019ve been really busy lately.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m sorry for dragging my feet on this project, but things are really backed up in the warehouse\u2026\u201d Pick your excuse. As soon as you\u2019ve added \u201cbut\u201d to your apology, you\u2019ve damaged your leadership credibility.<\/p>\n<h2>3. \u201cThis is the worst ever (best ever)\u2026\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Hyperbole has become widespread in leadership circles, and it\u2019s causing untold damage to leaders\u2019 credibility every time. \u201cThese results were great\u201d is good enough. As soon as you add, \u201cof all time\u201d, \u201cin history\u201d, or any other exaggerations, your credibility takes a hit.<\/p>\n<h2>4. \u201cMy biggest fault is that I work too hard\u2026\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Augh, how many times have you heard a variation of this humble-brag? When leaders resort to such thinly-veiled boasts, their credibility, and their likability, takes a dive.<\/p>\n<h2>5. \u201cThat\u2019s not my problem.\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Leadership means responsibility. While not every situation that arises is necessarily your specific problem, as a leader it falls upon you to work with the team to come up with a solution.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve been finding that your leadership has not been as sharp lately, that perhaps you\u2019ve been struggling to produce results, it could be that your team is not responding to your leadership.<\/p>\n<p>And the culprit might be found in your credibility.<\/p>\n<p>So be sure you are avoiding using phrases like these.
