{"id":8246,"date":"2024-11-28T22:22:09","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T04:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scottcochrane.com\/?p=8246"},"modified":"2024-11-28T22:22:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T04:22:10","slug":"10-unexpected-leadership-qualities-i-need-on-my-team-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottcochrane.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/28\/10-unexpected-leadership-qualities-i-need-on-my-team-2\/","title":{"rendered":"10 Unexpected Leadership Qualities I Need On My Team"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The starting place for building an effective \u201cdream team\u201d is in having a crystal clear picture of the qualities you want in the people.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>If you were to make a list of the attributes you would want on the members of your leadership team you would likely include such characteristics as:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>Go-getter.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Someone who \u2018makes it happen\u2019.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>High achiever.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Driven to perform.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>Results oriented.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you were to assemble a team with these qualities there\u2019s a good chance this would be a group who could accomplish great things.<\/p>\n<p>But I have consistently noticed a second set of qualities that I have come to consider essential on a \u201cdream team\u201d. Certainly I value the \u201cmake it happen\u201d people. But I can\u2019t escape the fact that there are other less obvious attributes I find that I look for.<\/p>\n<p>On my dream team I love to see these 10 less celebrated leadership qualities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2>They are ready to engage,\u00a0<em>before<\/em>\u00a0the stated starting time of the meeting.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>In every conversation they focus on the people, not their phone.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>They are \u201cthanking machines\u201d- Gratitude oozes from them.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>They pitch in to help with any task.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>They\u2019re not \u2018workaholics\u2019, but they stay at it until the job is done.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>They respond promptly to emails and voicemails.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>They show the same courtesy and respect to the maintenance staff as they do the c.e.o.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>They show genuine interest in the personal lives of colleagues.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>They do what they say they will do.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h2>They stand up for their teammates.<\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Who do you want on your team?<\/p>\n<p>What are the qualifications and qualities of the people you want sitting around your leadership table?<\/p>\n<p>As you build your team, by all means make sure you are finding leaders who are driven to achieve goals.
