There are changes coming to the Willow Creek Association, fuelled in part by two key Kingdom principles.
Principle #1: God places a Kingdom call on each of our lives.
Principle #2: Within a Kindom call, God will sometimes change our assignment
For more than 10 years I have lived out my call to equip local churches by being on assignment here at The Leadership Centre Willow Creek Canada.
But later this year my assignment is changing.
This fall I will join the international team of the Willow Creek Association to help provide leadership to the global movement.
In very practical terms it will mean relocating from here in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia to South Barrington, Illinois.
But in broader, more important Kingdom terms, it simply means that the way in which I am living out my call will change.
I will still expend every ounce of energy and passion to see the local church prevail. I will still steward the gifts God has given me to help develop Christian leaders. And I will still do everything I can to see the church in Canada flourish as never before.
But over the past few years it has become increasingly evident that God has been placing within me a growing passion for the local church around the world. He has provided me with increasing opportunities to encourage church leaders from Europe to Africa, to South America and beyond, and each time my heart for these leaders has grown.
This new assignment will provide a new opportunity respond to that passion.
I am very purposefully not positioning this news as a “farewell”, because although my own address will change, my connection to the work of The Leadership Centre Willow Creek Canada will continue with as much fervor and passion as ever. And my love for the church in Canada and for Canadian church leaders will continue to grow.
But, as I’ve been learning at a very deep and personal level, the call on our lives usually doesn’t change. But our assignment can, and often does, change.
I have never been more fired up about the local church than I am today, and as my new assignment unfolds my hope is that God will position me in new ways to serve church leaders here in Canada and around the world.
